COVID-19 / VIRUS CORONA
A. UNDERSTANDING OF COVID-19 / VIRUS CORONA
Virus 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) better known as Corona virus is a new type of coronavirus that is transmitted to humans. This virus can affect anyone, both infants, children, adults, the elderly, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. This virus infection is called COVID-19 and was first discovered in the city of Wuhan, China, at the end of December 2019. This virus spread quickly and has spread to other regions in China and to several countries, including Indonesia.
Coronavirus is a collection of viruses that can infect the respiratory system. In many cases, this virus only causes mild respiratory infections, such as flu. However, this virus can also cause severe respiratory infections, such as pneumonia, Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
B. Symptoms of Corona Virus
Corona virus infection or COVID-19 can cause sufferers to experience flu symptoms, such as runny and runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat, and fever; or symptoms of severe respiratory infections, such as high fever, cough with phlegm and even bleeding, shortness of breath, and chest pain.
However, in general there are general symptoms that can indicate someone is infected with the Corona virus, namely:
• Flu
• Cough
• Fever
•Hard to breathe
According to research, symptoms of COVID-19 appear within 2 days to 2 weeks after exposure to the Corona virus.
Immediately to the Doctor, if Corona Virus is Infected
Immediately see a doctor if you experience symptoms of Corona virus infection (COVID-19) as mentioned above, especially if symptoms appear 2 weeks after returning from China or another country that is positively infected. People suspected of being infected with the Corona virus must be referred immediately to the nearest hospital emergency room in order to get proper treatment.
C. Causes of Corona Virus
Corona virus infection or COVID-19 is caused by coronavirus, which is a group of viruses that infect the respiratory system. In most cases, coronaviruses only cause mild to moderate respiratory infections, such as flu. However, this virus can also cause severe respiratory infections, such as pneumonia, Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
It is suspected that the Corona virus was initially transmitted from animals to humans. However, it was later discovered that the Corona virus was also transmitted from human to human.
A person can get COVID-19 through a variety of ways, namely:
• Accidentally inhalation of saliva splashes from sneezing or coughing sufferers of COVID-19.
• Hold your mouth or nose without washing your hands first, after touching an object affected by COVID-19 saliva splashes.
• Close contact with people with COVID-19, such as touching or shaking hands.
Corona virus can infect anyone, but the effect will be more dangerous or even fatal if it occurs in elderly people, pregnant women, people who are sick, or people whose immune systems are weak.
D. Diagnosis of Corona Virus
To determine whether the patient is infected with the Corona virus, the doctor will ask about the symptoms experienced by the patient. The doctor will also ask if the patient is traveling to the Corona virus endemic area before symptoms appear. To confirm the diagnosis of COVID-19, the doctor will carry out the following follow-up examinations:
• Blood Sample Test
• Throat swab test to examine sputum samples
• Chest radiograph to detect infiltrates or fluid in the lungs.
E. Complications of Corona Virus
In severe cases, Corona virus infection can cause the following serious complications:
• Pneumonia
• Secondary infection in other organs
•Kidney failure
• Acute cardiac injury
• Acute respiratory distress syndrome
•Dead
F. DISCUSSION OF CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19)
Corona virus infection or COVID-19 can not be treated, but there are several steps that doctors can take to reduce symptoms, namely:
• Provide fever and pain relievers. However, doctors will not give aspirin to people with COVID-19 who are still young.
• Encourage sufferers of COVID-19 to take a warm bath and use a humidifier, to relieve cough and sore throat.
• Encourage sufferers of COVID-19 to get enough rest and not leave the house to prevent the spread of the virus.
• Encourage sufferers of COVID-19 to drink lots of water in order to maintain body fluid levels.
Corona Virus Deterrence
Until now, there is no vaccine to prevent Corona virus infection or COVID-19. Therefore, the best prevention method is to avoid the factors that can cause you to be infected with this virus, namely:
1. Wash your hands properly
Washing your hands properly is the simplest but effective way to prevent the spread of the 2019-nCoV virus. Wash your hands with running water and soap, for at least 20 seconds. Make sure all parts of the hand are washed thoroughly, including the back of the hand, wrist, between the fingers, and nails. After that, dry your hands using a tissue, clean towel, or a hand dryer.
If you are a commuter worker on public transportation, it will be difficult to find water and soap. You can clean your hands with a hand sanitizer. Use hand sanitizer products with an alcohol content of at least 60% to be more effective at disinfecting germs.
Wash your hands regularly, especially before and after eating, after using the toilet, after touching animals, taking out the trash, and after coughing or sneezing. Washing hands is also important before breastfeeding a baby or expressing milk.
2. Using a mask
There are two types of masks that you can use to prevent Corona virus transmission, namely surgical masks and N95 masks.
Surgical masks or surgical masks are disposable masks that are commonly used. This mask is easy to find, the price is affordable, and comfortable to wear, so many people use this mask when they are on their daily activities.
The correct way to use a surgical mask is that the colored side of the mask should face outward, while the white inner side faces the face and covers the chin, nose and mouth. The white side is made of material that can absorb dirt and filter germs from the air.
Although not entirely effective in preventing exposure to germs, the use of this mask can still reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases, including Corona virus infections. The use of masks is recommended for people who are sick to prevent the spread of viruses and germs, rather than in healthy people.
While the N95 mask is a type of mask designed specifically to filter out harmful particles in the air. This type of mask is actually more recommended to prevent Corona virus infection. However, this mask is not comfortable to wear everyday and the price is relatively expensive.
When removing the mask from the face, both the surgical mask and the N95 mask, avoid touching the front of the mask, because that part is full of germs attached. After removing the mask, wash your hands with soap or hand sanitizer, so that the hands are clean from germs that stick.
3. Maintain endurance
A strong immune system can prevent various diseases. To maintain and increase endurance, you are advised to eat healthy foods, such as vegetables and fruits, and protein foods, such as eggs, fish, and lean meat.
In addition, regular exercise, adequate sleep, not smoking, and not consuming alcoholic beverages can also increase endurance to avoid transmission of the Corona virus.
4. Don't go to an infected country
Not only China, Corona virus infection has now also spread to several other countries, such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, the United States, and Europe. The Corona virus has also been confirmed to be found in neighboring Indonesia, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
To avoid contracting this virus, you are advised not to travel to places that already have cases of Corona virus infection or have the potential to become a coronavirus site.
5. Avoid contact with animals that have the potential to transmit coronavirus
The new type of coronavirus is thought to originate from bats and is spread by several mammals and reptiles. Therefore, avoid contact with these animals
If you want to eat meat or fish, make sure the meat or fish has been washed and cooked until completely cooked. Avoid eating meat or fish that are not fresh or rotten.
If you experience flu symptoms, such as coughing, fever, and colds, which are accompanied by weakness and shortness of breath, especially if in the last 2 weeks you have traveled to China or other countries that already have Corona virus infection cases, immediately consult a doctor so the cause can be ascertained and given the right treatment.
For someone suspected of having COVID-19, there are a number of steps you can take to prevent the Corona virus from being transmitted to others, namely:
• Do not leave the house, except for treatment.
• Try to stay apart from other people for a while. If it is not possible, use a bedroom and bathroom that is different from what others use.
• Forbid and prevent others from visiting or visiting you until you are completely healed.
• As much as possible do not meet with people who are sick.
• Avoid sharing the use of eating and drinking utensils, toiletries, and sleeping equipment with others.
• Wear a mask and gloves when in a public place or with someone else.
• Apply cough ethics and use tissue to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, then throw the tissue in the trash.
G. Prevention Measures
Dr. Bruce Aylward, WHO Senior Adviser, at a press conference in Geneva on February 25, 2020, as reported by National Public Radio (NPR) said, the main driver of the spread of the corona virus stems from household-level infections. Namely through people who spend time in the room with other people infected with the disease.
The main mode of transmission is through breathing which can be produced by talking and coughing. Sparks that contain the virus can then enter the mouth, nose of other people nearby.
Other spreads can be through shaking hands or kissing an infected person, or through transmission of indirect contact. That is through contaminated surfaces, such as cell phones, door handles or other handrails.
This corona virus can survive on the surface from several hours to several days, depending on the supporting environment.
The WHO says that steps away from the social crowd, it is feared that some people are infected, have also helped slow the spread of the disease in a crowd.
Some countries now apply quarantine for about 14 days for residents who have just returned from a virus outbreak. Also isolate patients contracting the virus in certain hospitals during his recovery.
As for the family environment, there are some simple tips to prevent or stop the spread of coronavirus or other viruses at home if someone is sick, including:
1. Try not to interact directly with patients who are positively infected by the corona virus, to avoid sparks that can contain the virus from spreading.
2. Maintain air circulation by opening a window.
3. Maintaining the humidity of the air, because the level of humidity causes some viruses to rot faster.
4. Clean the surface of tables, chairs, mobile phones and others with household disinfectants, such as alcohol cleaners, which can kill viruses on the surface of objects that we often touch.
5. Do not share cups and cutlery, let alone share a toothbrush.
6. Do not share anything that comes in direct contact with the mouth or nose.
7. Of course, wash your hands with running water and soap when going to eat, or after touching objects that are held by many publics, such as after a bus way, a train, a mall, etc.
8. Always maintain personal hygiene, clothing, home and the environment from garbage and various impurities that allow the emergence of viruses.
9. For animal-raising families, it is necessary to commit to caring for them properly, including routine inspection and administration of vaccines. Because according to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, it is feared that there are some germs, bacteria, or viruses that are actually normal in these animals, but can cause illness if moved to humans. Also if after handling a cat for example, then after that wash your hands with soap.
10. To stay alert, don't underestimate the corona virus, but also don't panic too much, stay calm.
11. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat halal and thayyib, healthy rest patterns, and exercise regularly.
For Muslims, of course already accustomed to ablution at least five times a day, when going to pray fard, more and maintain personal hygiene. Especially if you always get used to always in a state of ablution, it will be much better. This is actually an automatic preventive measure worth worship.
The Prophet's advice, if it is not burdensome, is to always bersiwak (tooth-brushing) before prayer, meaning a minimum of five times a day, if carried out, it will certainly be cleaner.
Eating halal food and drinks is good, saying Basmallah when going to eat, and Hamdalah after eating, will certainly strengthen the soul to stay healthy. Also do not consume blood, liquor, cigarettes, and the like. Including consuming animals slaughtered without Allah's asthma, animals that are forbidden, such as: pigs, dogs, carcasses, feral beasts, sharp-clawed birds, mice, scorpions, snakes, frogs and the like.
The principle of "Cleanliness of a part of faith" (HR At-Tirmidhi), which is very well known among Muslims, must also be a guide for cleanliness for every Muslim.
Even in the Koran much deeper, "Verily, Allah likes those who repent and likes those who purify themselves." (Surat al-Baqarah: 222).
May God protect us, our environment, our nation and the world community from deadly plagues. Hopefully we also get wisdom from all these calamities. Aamin (A / RS2 / P1).
